Engaged | Keith & Kristin

Keith and Kristin

I decided to propose on Valentine’s Day back in November 2008. As any guy knows, after dating someone for over two years, your sweetheart starts to let you know she wants a commitment. I figured she would never guess that I would ask her on Valentine’s Day. The day has meaning to me as my mom and dad got engaged and married on Valentine’s day I flew down to North Carolina to ask for her mother and father’s blessing two weeks prior. I also wanted them to be there so I booked two round trip tickets to NY for them.

The big weekend came (this year president’s day weekend) and she thought we are going to my ski house in Vermont. After faking a sickness, I told her we weren’t going to go skiing and that I would pick her up in the city around 3p on the Saturday. On my way into the city, I told her I feel bad so we would go back to my house and try to get a reservation (I had a reservation booked since November at the Charthouse in Weekhawken, NJ). The funny thing that I knew would throw her off was that two years earlier, I forgot it was Valentine’s Day and we drove around trying to get a reservation and couldn’t get one. Anyhow, we got back to my house and I tried calling restaurants. Everyone said we are booked. I tried calling the Charthouse (faking it) and was able to secure a last minute reservation at 6p (it was 5p).

We quickly got dressed and headed over to the restaurant. While at the restaurant, I was extremely nervous. She thought my stomach was still upset. We had a few drinks and ate dinner. When dessert came out, the waiter asked if I would like the champagne I ordered a head of time. I said yes, and Kristin proceeded to say, “you don’t really like champagne why get it, lets get another bottle of wine.” So I did. After the waiter left, Kristin then said, “I almost thought you were going to propose to me since you were ordering champagne. Please don’t ever do it in a restaurant or in front of my family.” I sat in my seat and just thought. After reviewing my thoughts for a few minutes and all the preparation I put in to it, I decided, that she doesn’t have a choice. I got up and she asked what I was doing. I then lowered to one knee and told her I love her and asked if she would marry me. She took the ring in shock. I then said, “you need to say yes to keep that.” She said yes.

After dinner, I had a limo waiting for us to head to the Marriott Marquis in Time Square. I told Kristin, my mom and dad wanted to have a celebratory drink with us as they are in for their anniversary. Kristin proceeded to call her family, but no one answered the phone. Unknown to Kristin, I had them all waiting at the Marriott along with my family. We walked in and Kristin was overwhelmed.

I put a lot of planning into my engagement as every guy does. I have to say, Thank you to Christina and Bentley Diamond as they made one of the biggest purchases of my life extremely easy and exciting. We plan on getting married in 2010 and will be back at Bentley in search of our wedding Bands. Thank you.
