James and I met twelve years ago when I was babysitting across the street from his house. We instantly became friends and our friendship continued to grow throughout high school. Everyone always said we were the best friends that would someday be married; soon enough that would be the case. While we were in college we stayed very close and by my senior year our friendship and love for each other had turned to a romantic love. James was back in Wall in his first year on the Wall Twp PD and I was about to graduate. Right after graduating, I began teaching at Wall Intermediate School and the happy ever after began!
On April 1, 2009, James had told me he had gotten tickets to a show from someone at work and had last minute plans for us to go. Still not knowing where we were going, he picked me up from work and brought me to dinner. Curious as to where the night would lead, I kept asking him a million questions. Finally he started to laugh and asked me if I knew what day it was. Confused, I thought about it and realized it was April Fools Day! As he laughed that we really had no tickets and no plans, I got upset that he would do something like that. He dropped me back off at work to get my car and go home. Sad, and mad that he got my hopes up for something, I followed behind him all the way back to our house. When we got home, I opened the door to find the living room filled with rose petals, a bottle of champagne, two dozen roses, chocolates (from Bentley) and a little box. As I stood shocked and surprised, he said, well go ahead and open it. As I untied the ribbon I found myself staring into an empty box. Just when I didn’t think I could take one more April Fools joke, I turned around to find him down on his knee with the ring in his hand. After the most romantic words for his proposal, and a thousand happy tears streaming down my face, he had one more surprise. As he wiped the tears away he told me he wanted to finish the night where our romance began. The first love song we made “our song” was, Your Everything, by Keith Urban, so he had got us tickets to see him at Webster Hall in New York! It was the most amazing night of our lives! To top it all off, at the concert, the big screen flashed the message: Keith, thanks for our wedding song! We just got engaged tonight! Love Allie and James.
